From the clothes we wear to the beds and couches where we spend our downtime, we’re exposed to about 80,000 synthetic chemicals each day. The products intended to help us feel our best—soaps, deodorants and personal care products—are often the worst offenders. Skin is the body’s largest organ, and unfortunately our skin is constantly absorbing these chemicals, which can lead to disastrous health concerns. How do we counteract this trend and get harmful chemicals out of our bodies? The same way they came in: through our skin. In this installment of our conversation with toxic chemical expert Bruce Lourie, he outlines some of the dire effects that synthetic chemicals can have, and how sweat is the key to reversing years of exposure.
